2021-06-16 Almost Forgot! (NSFW Jane)

I’ve been spending some time with Substance painter this last week and I finally worked out how to set up UDIMs correctly.

For those who don’t know, this is a method of setting up the texture sets so that you can paint across seams on a model. Normally you would paint each part separately and try to line things up. But with UDIMs you can paint directly from one part to another without changing texture tiles. This ability to span tiles when painting also lets you use cool tools like particle brushes to add cool effects like…well, ahem. You know, your mess….on someone’s face.

Or you can use it to create drops that cascade down the body and wash off said mess.

The attached were my first attempts at using Substance this way and I have to say the initial effects are promising. Not knowing entirely what I was doing I was able to set up both effects in the same hour. Now that I have a handle on the flow and setting up the initial textures, custom surfaces like this can be created within a few minutes!

And, we can also apply this to clothing and objects as well. Our imagination is the limit!

Anyway, as going to toss that into the news brief and forgot. =P

Cheers mates!
